	This 1974 Norton 850 Commando is being sold as a completely restored motorcycle. SOME BACKGROUND INFORMATION: This 1974 Norton 850 Commando was purchased from Justin Jurgens/British Sports Cars in San Luis Obispo, California, late 2008. British Sports Cars is a premier high end British Sports car sales, service and restoration facility. They also broker cars and motorcycles for Patrick Paterson, a local collector. Its my understanding that Patrick has over 150 motorcycles in his collection which is housed in Morrow Bay California. Every once in awhile Patrick has British Sports Cars put one of his bikes up for sale. This Norton was one of those motorcycles. I had the privilege of visiting their shop and showroom last year and saw first hand the cars they are restoring, servicing, are selling. ALL outstanding examples of British craftsmanship. Speedometer shows just over 9,250 original miles. ENGINE, TRANSMISSION AND FRAME PLATE NUMBERS ALL MATCH. (See Photos) THIS NORTON COMES WITH A CLEAR STATE OF OREGON TITLE. VIN = 310929 This 1974 Norton 850 Commando came without any mirrors or turn signals. I purchased New Old Stock (NOS) mirrors and turn signals from Old Britts in Washington state and installed them on this bike. Replace the tyres that came on this Norton with a set of "period" tyres. This Norton has about 1000 miles on a completely rebuilt engine and transmission. I don't have any documentation to this fact other then British Sport Cars telling me this is true. My mechanic also believes this Norton's engine and transmission were completely rebuilt but can not tell exactly what was replaced and what new components were used in the rebuild. The engine and transmission do not leak oil. This Norton starts on the first or second kick! Every time..... Even when its below 35 degrees F. This Norton idles very well and does not stall. It runs very smooth and I have had it up to 80 mph without any abnormal vibrations or shimmies. This Norton has tons of torque! Transmission shifts very smoothy and have not experienced any "false neutrals". Front and rear brakes work perfectly for a motorcycle of this vintage. Front and rear suspension works perfectly. It is currently setup for a 200 lbs rider and no passenger. All hardware and bushings appear to be new. There is no rust or signs of aging on any of these or any of the Norton's components. The seat is in perfect condition. All lights and electricals work perfectly. The charging system works perfectly. All the wiring has been replaced with NOS components. Speedometer and tachometer work perfectly. RECENT UPGRADES: In December 2009 I had RACEWAY SERVICES in Salem Oregon change out the stock Amal Carburetors with a set of JRC 32 mm flat side carburetors and RTC air filters. Additionally I had RACEWAY SERVICES install a POWERARC (multi spark) ignition system. This was a HUGE improvement to mid and high range torque! RACEWAY SERVICES also installed a Odssey Battery. RACEWAY SERVICES owner Jim Petitti and his staff have done an outstanding job with this project. Since the stock air filter is no longer used, I have removed the stock air filter mounting plate and relocated the ignition switch slightly inboard from its stock location. I have all the original Amal carburetor components, air filter and throttle cables as well as all the original ignition components that came with this bike BUT they are not part of this sale. I ALSO HAVE DOCUMENTATION REALTED TO THIS NORTON BUT IT IS NOT PART OF THIS SALE: Work Shop Manual for Norton Commando. Norton Villiers Ltd. TWO COPIES Norton 850 Commando parts list, bound. Norton Commando "Service Sheets" (Service Release Bulletins), bound. Norton Twin Restoration, by Roy Bacon. NEGATIVES: I am listing some of these as "negatives" because some folks may see them as NOT being exactly what this Norton should be to make it restored to "PERFECT" original stock condition. There could be other specifics that I am not aware. 1.) Paint: Small ding in the pin striping on the tank near the filler cap. See photo. Small ding in the left hand battery cover bracket. See photo. The Norton logo on the gas tank is not clear coated but all other lettering and pin stripping has been clear coated. The Frame may have been "power coated" instead of using a stock paint like the original. 2.) Aluminum Pieces: Foot control components and brackets have been polished. Front fork bottoms polished. 3.) Charging System: Charging system has been converted to a electronic charging system. Original charging system components, rectifier, zener diode and capacitor are still mounted on this Norton but not hooked up. 4.) Ignition System: The Ignition System is a POWERARC MULTI-SPARK System. 5.) Exhaust System: Exhaust header pipes are Norton 750 style headers. There is NO cross over connection as found on the original 850 Commando. Exhaust silencers (mufflers) are "pea shooter" style but don't appear to be NOS. I am guessing they are 1 3/8" Viking silencers. 6.) Instrumentation: Tachometer has a small scratch on the face. See photo. 7.) "ZIP-TIES" used to support and hold cables and wiring. Have NOS retainers that will replace zip-ties where they show. 8.) Miscellaneous: There is NO owner's manual or original tool kit. Can this Norton take the "Best of Show" in a Concourse de' Elegance level event, probably not in its current state. This Norton is a great example of the 1974 850 Commando and will hold its own at any local or regional vintage motorcycle event. This motorcycle is meant to be ridden.
